Who are the best players linked with signing for Arsenal this week?
The week Arsenal's record breaking kit sponsorship deal with Puma was announced, the transfer links surrounding the Gunners have only accelerated.
In the interests of not generating a repetitious list each week; players featured in last week's column are not eligible. These are Stevan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain, Cesc Fabregas, Maxime Gonalons and Michel Vorm.
So who are the top six this week? Here is our list...
1) Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney to Arsenal? Surely not? That's pretty much our sentiments, given the striker's extortionate wages and the Gunners' unwillingness to previously pay such ridiculous sums to their stars, but the interest from the Emirates has been claimed by goal.com in a report on Thursday. Rooney handed in a transfer request a fortnight ago it was revealed this week which was turned down by Manchester United, but David Moyes appointment at Old Trafford only adds intrigue to the scenario.
2) Lukasz Piszczek
Borussia Dortmund right-back Lukasz Piszczek could join fellow Pole Wojciech Szczesny at the Emirates, according to Friday's Mail. The defender would be a replacement for Bacary Sagna who has been tipped to leave the club this summer, and has been a regular in Dortmund's Champions League progression to the final. He has been described as a right-sided Monreal, and would give Arsenal an experienced and top class player for Carl Jenkinson to learn from.
3) Arda Turan
Atletico Madrid ace Arda Turan was linked with Arsenal by reports in Turkey this week, with Chelsea also taking a keen interest in the left-winger. The Turkish international has a buyout clause of 24 million Euros, which is likely to put Arsenal off pursuing any deal. While we don't expect this one to happen, Turan is a top class player who would provide genuine width and a new option for Arsenal on the left hand side.
4) Wilfried Bony
Eredivisie top scorer Wilfried Bony has been attracting the attention of numerous clubs, with the Ivorian naturally described as the next Didier Drogba. Links between him and Arsenal appeared sketchy, but the Star claimed he is a striker Arsenal's board want to sign this summer, rather than Loic Remy who is wanted by Wenger. QPR ace Remy does not make our list.
5) Sven Ulreich
It wouldn't be normal week at the Emirates if the Gunners were not linked with a goalkeeper, and this week it is the turn of Stuttgart number one Sven Ulreich to be touted. German newspaper Bild claimed Arsenal have been scouting the 24-year-old, who is an outstanding prospect and a former German under-21 international. He has his chance in the spotlight later this month when he faces Bayern Munich in the German cup final.
6) James McCarthy
James McCarthy may not be the most exotic sounding name on the list, but the Irishman is certainly a talent who could blossom alongside a team as creative as Arsenal's. The Independent claimed early in the week that Arsenal and Chelsea are considering summer bids. The midfielder has been in form for Wigan this month, scoring against Swansea in midweek, and could yet derail the Gunners' top four hopes when the Latics visit the Emirates next week.
