Insider leak: Jovetic to Arsenal is a 'done deal'

Jovetic 2

HITC's Jenny Leigh claims to have the inside track on Arsenal's potential transfer deal of Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic this summer.

I have it on good authority from a reliable inside source that Arsenal have unofficially agreed terms with Fiorentina for Stevan Jovetic in a deal worth £27 million and that as soon as the transfer window opens on July 1st, the sale will officially go through.

From the same industry insider who had prior knowledge on the Daniel Sturridge and Fernando Torres deals between Chelsea and Liverpool, I have word that Jovetic’s representatives have already opened preliminary negotiations with the North Londoners and that the deal is, crucially - not dependent on Arsenal’s qualification for the Champions League.

According to my source the 23-year-old Montenegrin striker will sign a five-year deal with the Gunners, matching current highest earners Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott on £100,000 a week.

This will come as no surprise to Arsenal fans who have been excited by the prospect of securing the services of Jovetic this summer as rumours have circulated for a number of months linking the club with the player.

It is understood that Manchester City were interested in the player but he has made his decision on his future his preference has been to join a Premier League club where he will be assured a regular start in the first team for the duration of his contract.

My source claims that City and Serie A rivals Juventus made enquiries to Fiorentina and were prepared to match or beat Arsenal’s opening offer but the player himself expressed his preference to continue his development under Arsene Wenger.

He has in recent weeks expressed this himself:

“I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest,” Jovetic told The Sun.

“It’s a big pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I am happy about that. I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe.”

Fiorentina are apparently reluctant to sell to a direct Serie A rival and subsequently were open to bids from foreign suitors, of which it is believed Arsenal were one of the first to approach the club with interest.

Crucially, my source claims the deal is not dependent on Arsenal’s qualification for the Champions League, which is still not assured with two games left to play. It seems the player has made his decision and is unequivocal in his preference to join the Gunners this summer.
