Arsenal chances of signing Alessandro Matri now doubtful

Supposed Arsenal target Alessandro Matri has re-iterated his desire to stay in Serie A with Juventus.

The Daily Express claimed last month that Arsenal were in to sign Juventus duo Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella.

This particular trail has gone quiet since, with Matri later linked with signing for Serie A rivals Lazio.

But he has instead now spoken out on his future, and has news which could spell the end of Arsenal's pursuit of him.

When asked about his future by Sky Italia the 28-year-old striker replied: "100 per cent Juve."

He backed his desire to stay at Juventus by saying:

"I've said it yesterday: I do not have knowledge of my departureI do not know what will happen in the future, but for now I say stay."

Matri scored the winner for Juventus away to Atalanta on Wednesday night in a 1-0 win, in their first match since being crowned champions at the weekend.

However he has been anything but a consistent starter this season, making nine Serie A starts and 12 substitute appearances, but he has managed to score eight goals in that time, making him the club's joint third-highest league scorer.

For Arsenal, his comments indicate he has no intention of leaving the club, but his chances are likely to become more limited by the incoming Fernando Llorente.

Juventus are also looking at adding another striker, but given Matri's pledge of commitment and apparent happiness at being a bit part player, expect him to stay on while Quagliarella is sold.
