PICTURE: David Luiz gets involved in Villas-Boas' Tottenham pep-talk

The Chelsea player wanted to know what on earth was going on; so got well involved as Andre Villas-Boas tried to direct communications via Lewis Holtby.

Last night Tottenham Hotspur saw their Champions League hopes slip entirely out of their own hands after a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. In the second half of the fixture both teams opened up in almost basketball fashion and Andre Villas Boas decided that the time was right to pass on some information to the rest of the players.

He chose German midfielder Lewis Holtby to castigate in the technical area. Speaking enthusiastically with hand movements galore he was clearly trying to get his message across but unfortunately there did seem to be a gooseberry present.

This week David Luiz has already found himself in the news for rather odd reasons; wearing a beamer of a smile despite just being whacked in the shins by Rafael on Sunday and being compared to a ‘dying swan’ in possibly the last ever post-match outburst from the outgoing Sir Alex Ferguson.

And it seemed he is enjoying being an irritance after he decided to go across and eavesdrop on the conversation.

Who knows exactly what the plan was for Luiz or whether the ex-Benfica man was simply trying to annoy his former gaffer and FC Porto rival; but he did get his hair pulled afterwards in a cheeky but painful looking tug of his Sideshow Bob barnet by the diminutive former Schalke midfielder as they made their way back on to the pitch.

Whatever his plan was doesn’t really matter because plainly put it was just quite amusing and reminded me of one of my favourite footballing moments; when Emmanuel Eboue decided to do the same when playing for the Ivory Coast vs North Korea in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

So thank you David for giving me an excuse to reel out this video once again…
