Bacary Sagna has revealed that his teammates quiz him over his proposed summer move to Paris Saint-Germain on a daily basis.
It’s a move which has been in the press for a number of weeks, with Sagna tipped to be the next big name to walk away from the Emirates Stadium and onto a brand new adventure.
Sagna hasn’t ruled the move out but seems to be attracting a lot of interest from his teammates, which could pile up and force him into seeking a move to the French giants.
It seems like light hearted banter, which is fine but if it turns into anything more hostile then the Frenchman may have no choice but to try and find a way out of London.
The problem is that very fact that Sagna has not dismissed the move, which is in a way a very subtle sort of come and get me plea to PSG, who could easily afford him and put him on a good contract.
Sagna has left the door open, which suggests that if PSG really want him, they’ll get him and that, in the eyes of several fans, will mean he’s getting exactly what he deserves in terms of grief from his teammates.
However, he can’t really be blamed for leaving the door open to a PSG move because he’s 30-years-old and entering the final stage of his career.
The next contract he signs is likely to be his last in professional football, so he could be dragging things out to the summer to see if PSG are actually going to put a move together to sign him.
His reluctance to confirm or dismiss the rumours is simply the right back hedging his bets with regards to not wanting to leave himself in even more of an awkward position at the club.
Had he made it blatantly obvious, through some up front comments, that he wanted to go back to France then he’d look like a bit of an idiot if the move didn’t come off.
As long as the stick he gets from his teammates remains innocent then there shouldn’t be any problems but it’s the negative effect of being on the receiving end of jokes every single day, which could force him out of the club.
He’s a professional and it’s the same with any profession in life, if you go to work and get abuse on a daily basis, there is only so much you can take before you pack that job in and look for a new one.
It’s the same with Sagna. It all seems light hearted at the moment but it could intensify the second there is some official interest from PSG, which could result in him being bullied our of the front door.
Light hearted banter? Do you expect him to stay or go?
