Liverpool could be on the verge of signing Brazilian defender Douglas on a free transfer from FC Twente. However, that could damage the immediate development of young defenders at the club such as John Flanagan, Martin Kelly and Andre Wisdom who will all be competing for first team places next season.

Manchester City could be one of the first clubs to test Liverpool’s resolve this summer, with a bid for Luis Suarez. Fresh reports are suggesting that Roberto Mancini wants to orchestrate a big money move to make Suarez one of the best paid players at the Etihad.

Southampton have become the latest team linked with a £10 million move for Celtic’s Victor Wanyama. Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly been chasing the defensive midfielder for most of the season, with the Saints seemingly ready to join the summer bidding war.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard’s shoulder operation is due to take place earlier than expected. It could rule Gerrard out for the rest of the season as Liverpool seek to move above Everton on the Premier League table, which could mean automatic qualification into next season’s Europa League.

Jamie Carragher has suggested he is leaving Liverpool in a very healthy position. Carragher is due to retire at the end of the season and despite calls for him to go back on that decision, he’s insisted the overall shape of the squad is in very good condition ahead of summer reinforcements.

Liverpool have been offered fresh hope in their pursuit of Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen. The midfield man has urged any Premier League side interested in him to make any early move in the summer transfer market, as he seeks a new challenge away from the Netherlands.

Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has urged striker Andy Carroll to try and snub a return to Anfield. Cole has suggested Carroll’s interests would be best served with a stay at West Ham, despite his admission that he wants to prove he’s good enough to play for Liverpool.

Former Liverpool player John Aldridge has suggested the club badly missed Luis Suarez in the Merseyside derby. Aldridge says the striker could have made the difference during the 0-0 draw, as Liverpool failed to find a way past a stubborn and resilient Everton defence.

Hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects to the late Anne Williams, a campaigner for Hillsborough justice. Hundreds of fans lined the streets for the service last week with some of the highest profile individuals linked to Liverpool, including Brendan Rodgers, attending the service.
