News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
Wojciech Szczesny has been in the news today after reportedly stating that North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur lack the quality necessary to see off Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for the Champions League places.
His derogatory comments toward his ‘hated’ rivals were later removed from the official Arsenal website.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has claimed he was approached by Bayern Munich in the summer with regards to a potential transfer. Despite the success of the Bundesliga outfit this campaign the French international was also quick to point out he had no regrets regarding his decision to sign for the North London club.
Arsene Wenger insists he will not necessarily consider playing Theo Walcott down the middle more often than he currently does; despite the Englishman bagging his 20th goal of the season against QPR at the weekend.
Walcott has hit the 20 benchmark for the first time in his career this season but Wenger believes that playing Lukas Podolski down the middle and Walcott out-wide remains the most profitable combination while Olivier Giroud serves his suspension.
Transfer news now and Arsenal have been given hope in the pursuit of FC Basel defender Aleksander Dragovic. The Austrian international is reportedly looking for a move to the Premier League and after impressive performances in the Europa League The Gunners are just one team said to be interested; with league rivals Everton in competition with AC Milan and Zenit St Petersburg for his services.
Arsenal will look to add Wigan midfielder James McCarthy to their ranks this summer; regardless of The Lactics safety. The Republic of Ireland international has been in great form this season and in the past has also been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. Now however it is being reported that the main competitors for his signature will be Chelsea this summer.
Hamburg striker Heung-Min Son has also been linked with a move to North London with Tottenham and Arsenal set to battle it out for the South Korean starlet. Hamburg SV’s general manager Frank Arnesen has inferred that should Son not extend his deal at the end of the current campaign he will be sold in 2013.
However the news regarding a potential approach for Matthew Lowton is not so good. The Aston Villa youngster has reportedly caught the eye of Arsene Wenger this season with his assured performances but his manager Paul Lambert is insistent that he will not be going anywhere.
