David Luiz and Rafael decided to have a little Brazilian spat in the corner at Old Trafford today; which ended in farcical scenes.
In what was a dismal game we finally got our first (allowed) goal of the day when Juan Mata rifled a strike toward goal that beat Anders Lindegaard in the Manchester United goal via a wicked deflection from Phil Jones.
The 87th minute winner was all a little bit too much to take for the Manchester United full-back Rafael. The young Brazilian decided he would take his frustrations on an international colleague in David Luiz; perhaps jealous of the Chelsea man’s 20 caps to his pitiful two for Selecao.
His actions were tempestuous at best and while many will argue differently Howard Webb certainly had every right to brandish the red card simply because the boy was being stupid enough to give Luiz a reason to tumble.
And tumble he did.
He has often been compared to The Simpsons character Krusty the Clown because of his large bonce of curly hair but this really was clown-like. That invisible sniper who has been plaguing the Premier League once again this season must have been in attendance as the 26-year-old fell to the floor as if he was an extra in Platoon.
To make matters worse he was caught doing a Sergio Busquets directly afterwards. Remember when the Barcelona midfielder did a little rendition of peek-a-boo when ‘elbowed’ by Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta?
This occasion was slightly different; as you can see below David Luiz found the whole episode rather hilarious.
That or the facial muscles that convey pain are the same as the ones that express hilarity in the cheeks of Luiz. But it looks if he was getting a right belly full from the incident.
My opinion? Throw the book at them both for being a mockery to the game. You wouldn’t expect to see such ludicrosity in Sunday League football let alone at the Theatre of Dreams.
In fact am I dreaming? Am I about to wake up?
No that really did happen. What is happening to this league?
What did you think of the incident?
