Yossi Benayoun recently admitted that he will be leaving Chelsea this summer after three rather uneventful years at the club.
The Israeli was signed from Liverpool for £5.5 million in the summer of 2010 but has only ever made 13 Premier League appearances for the club in a stint that also took in loan spells with both Arsenal and West Ham United.
He says his decision to leave was due to a desire to express himself elsewhere and spoke of the move in the London Evening Standard last week:
"If I wanted to stay perhaps I could, but I'm looking for a team where I can express myself more. Agents are talking about offers from America, Spain, Russia and England, but there's nothing concrete at the moment. I've no regrets about staying at Chelsea. I've been a strong part of the rotation system, starting some games and coming on as a sub in others.’’
In recent weeks however things have really turned sour for the player with allegations of abuse levelled at his own fans.
Here are his Tweets that caused the internal investigation that perhaps this fan ‘banter’ had crossed the line:
The booing yesterday came from some Small part of the Chelsea fans that doing it in the last few weeks since I did an interview about Torres— Yossi Benayoun (@YossiBenayoun15) April 22, 2013
There is some other issues that the club is taking care and try to handle them in the right way..as sometimes people are crossing the limit— Yossi Benayoun (@YossiBenayoun15) April 22, 2013
He believes the booing started since he backed yo-yo striker Fernando Torres after the Europa League tie against Sparta Prague in February.
While there is absolutely no hint of racism at this point with the clubs recent off-field problems they have been quick to act on this case and start a thorough investigation.
So for Benayoun it would be understandable if his time at Chelsea was not exactly a happy one right now.
On his way out of the club and abused by his own fans he must be feeling low.
So what better to lift his spirits than a friendly birthday message from a team-mate?
That is exactly what he got from David Luiz. The Brazilian Tweeted the Israeli international a very heart-felt birthday message during the build-up to the game with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Happy bday to my friend @yossibenayoun15 ! God bless you forever! U r amazing person and player! Big hug— David Luiz (@DavidLuiz_4) May 5, 2013
So we echo his sentiments. Happy 32nd Birthday Yossi and at least one man at the club seems to love you.
