On the back of an incredible 6-0 weekend win, Liverpool have this week been linked with several transfer signings.
While Liverpool are claimed to have a limited £20 million transfer budget, that has not stopped them being linked with a number of stars, including some real bargains.
We have taken a look at the best six players connected with Liverpool transfers and ranked them in order of how they would improve the club's first team...
Spanish publication AS this week claimed Liverpool have renewed their interest in Spain's all-time leading scorer David Villa, who is primed for a move away from Barcelona. While such a move coming off is a long-shot at best, by far and away he is the best player linked with a move to Anfield, and one who would transform the club's attack and make it even more deadly.
A move for Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori could be a real bargain, especially as the price quoted is no more than £2 million. 20-year-old Ilori has broken into the first team from Sporting's impressive youth setup, and could be a long-term replacement for Jamie Carragher. He has bags of potential, and would be an exciting upgrade from Sebastian Coates, but Sporting are claimed to be looking at offering him a new deal to ward off interest from the Reds.
Liverpool's budget may mean any striker addition has to be on the cheap, and a £5 million swoop for Loic Remy would be just that. What you can't argue with, is the value for money that the Frenchman would bring, and his pace would really be in keeping with the lively attack Brendan Rodgers is creating. QPR need to sell, and Liverpool would be wise to profit from that.
Reports this week claimed Liverpool are monitoring Lucas Biglia of Anderlecht, while one in Italy even suggested the Reds had made a £4.5 million offer. This is said to have been trumped by Lazio, his most likely destination now, although a move is far from completed. Biglia at 27 would be keen to impress, and be good cover for his Brazilian namesake Lucas in the defensive midfield role.
Another player touted for that role is Somalian-born Norwegian Abdisalam Ibrahim, who belongs to Manchester City. Liverpool are one of several clubs claimed to be interested in the 22-year-old by SkySports, who is entering the final year of his contract. The player finds his chances to prove himself limited at City, but is keen to become a success in the Premier League. If the Reds really are scouting him and like his potential, then this is one to watch.
Reading defender Alex Pearce is available on a free transfer at the end of the season, and he has this week been tipped for a link-up with former boss Brendan Rodgers. At 24, the centre-back would add depth to Liverpool's options, and on a free may be worth a gamble, even if he is not a name which will excite fans.
