Mario Balotelli’s girlfriend Fanny Neguesha has ended their relationship after comments the AC Milan striker made about Real Madrid’s chances of overcoming Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League semi-final second leg on Tuesday.
I wrote earlier this week about Balotelli’s appalling disregard for his girlfriend after he stated the Real Madrid players could sleep with Neguesha if they managed to come back from 4-1 down to Dortmund to progress to the Champions League final.
They didn’t – however it was very very close in the final stages of the game that saw Real Madrid beat Dortmund 2-0 at the Bernabeu, exiting the competition 4-3 on aggregate.
Regardless of the footballing stakes, I am glad to see Fanny Neguesha has called time on her romance with Balotelli.
It’s not that I ordinarily take any remote interest in footballers and their private lives but the former Manchester City striker chose to make his relationship public and, in effect, scored an own goal with his disgusting comments on a game that really had absolutely nothing to do with him.
Balotelli showed a complete lack of respect for his girlfriend and their relationship, and a lack of respect for himself with his comments and I’m glad to see that Neguesha has valued herself higher and kicked him to the curb.
I asserted that regardless of who won or lost the Champions League tie, Balotelli would be the only loser and that would now appear to be the case. His comments were immature and disrespectful – not just to Neguesha but to women in general.
There was absolutely no need for him to comment at all on the fixture and certainly no need for him offer his girlfriend’s sexual favours to 11 professional footballers, even if it was in jest.
Let’s hope Balotelli learns from his mistake and I wish Neguesha the very best of luck in her future romantic endeavours – she dodged a bullet with this one and she has set a rare positive example to young women by showing him a red card.
