Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Damiao update and Dembele

All the latest Tottenham Hotspur news and gossip.

Late last night news from Brazil broke indicating that Tottenham were in 'pole position' ahead of Napoli, to sign striker Leandro Damiao in the summer, with the source of the news the Internacional club president, who went onto coyly state: "Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year."

This may be a good point to ask whether Brazil have any upcoming friendly fixtures in England. Cynical, us?

And our cynicism is backed up by South American football expert Tim Vickery who has told TalkSport this evening that Damiao is in fact no closer to a transfer to Tottenham. You can listen to the interview here.

In our earlier response to the news, HITC writer Nick Harris took a look at the rumour, and asked if Damiao really is the best option for Spurs to consider up front this summer, with one fan who responded replying that Aston Villa's Christian Benteke would be a better choice.

The club have been linked also with his fellow Brazilian striker Hulk, who signed for Zenit St Petersburg last summer but is thought to want a way out. The story comes from the Standard and is also reported in Portugal, but it remains another unlikely option given the record fee Spurs would have to invest in the striker.

Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly sweating on the fitness of midfielder Moussa Dembele, who could be forced to miss the climax to the season. He was substituted against Wigan with a muscle injury and has missed training since, but Spurs are still hoping he will be fit for the weekend's game.

Also on HITC today, we have an article on why if Spurs were really ambitious, they would look at bagging Borussia Dortmund's unsung hero, Ilkay Gundogan this summer, if they were able to put together the money to afford him.

Joao Moutinho is being linked with a transfer again, but not with Spurs. This time it is super-rich PSG which are chasing him, and plan to hold talks with the midfielder's representatives in the coming days.

And finally, Spurs youngster Dean Parrett has apparently been released, with it reported that he is training with Crystal Palace and even played a youth team fixture for the Eagles.
