Are Liverpool in the market for a defensive midfielder with the name Lucas?
While they already have one, a report has claimed they have made a bid for another, with the player concerned Anderlecht's Lucas Biglia.
Their chances of signing him may be about to fall by the wayside too, with Lazio having an offer accepted by the player.
The news comes via Football Italia, whose report entitled 'Lazio close on Biglia' stated that the Rome club have had an offer of £8 million accepted by the Belgian side.
The fourth line in the report is most interesting to Liverpool supporters, with it claimed: "So far Liverpool have bid only around £4.5m, but the Biancocelesti have moved in front."
The Reds have been outbid quite substantially compared to their supposed valuation, and it is tough to see them going back in.
Biglia is a 27-year-old who was previously linked with the club back in February, and has been on the radar of Arsenal regularly over the past year.
Norwich, Fulham and Southampton have all been credited with an interest.
What the report does not do is state when the bid was made, but an article from Talksport, re-produced on Liverpool's website yesterday, claims the Reds are 'in the running for the player', but makes no mention of a bid.
It is all very interesting, as to whether Liverpool have or have not actually made an offer, or whether the Italian report contains misinformation, because their leading line references the Talksport story.
We have our doubts as to whether Liverpool have made a bid, but it is certainly an interesting talking point, but it may be a moot one if Lazio's £8 million offer has indeed been accepted.
Signing defensive midfield cover for Lucas at Liverpool could be wise, as to whether Lucas Biglia is that man - Take a wild guess is our recommendation, the 'bid' may just end up an unsolved mystery.
What do you think? Have Liverpool made a bid, or haven't they?
