Falcao is told he 'must join' Manchester United

Falcao has been not so subtly nudged in the direction of Manchester United.

Just like many of Manchester United's transfer plans, their intentions towards Falcao remains very much clouded.

It was reported last month by Spanish newspaper Marca that United had given Atletico Madrid a 'downpayment' for his signature, although Sir Alex Ferguson later played down reports.

Today they have been given a boost by the unlikely source of a former Newcastle United star Faustino Asprilla.

The Colombian legend is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: "We were talking and he asked me my opinion on who he should join. He knows that every big club in the world wants him. He is not a player motivated by money - what he wants is somewhere that his family will be happy and where he will have success.

"With teams like Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City they have good times then they have bad times - that is why I told him he must choose Manchester United. Every season they are challenging - and if he wants success that is where I have told him to go."

So if Falcao does have a sensible head on his shoulders he will indeed listen to his compatriot, who he clearly holds in high regard, and keep his sights set on a move to Old Trafford.

The sensational striker would certainly mix things up once again, and indicate to United's rivals they are not prepared to let them catch them up this summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday said that the Red Devils could not compete in the market with Chelsea or Manchester City, which if they sign Falcao would be nothing but a smokescreen for the mega-deal.

Or he may know something we don't. Because German newspaper Bild last week claimed Falcao is almost certain to move to Chelsea, as part of a package set up by Roman Abramovich to welcome Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge.

That would certainly shift the title balance to more of an even keel, but if Falcao does listen to Asprilla - United may have it sewn up before it even begins.

What do you think of Asprilla's comments, will they make a difference?
