Frank Lampard has said that he welcomes the pressure Chelsea have on their last few games, saying he feeds off the knowledge that there is no room for error in the Premier League:
“I would rather be challenging for the title in the last few games than playing for the top four, of course, but it's so important for the club to be in the Champions League and we all know that. We have to do what it takes to make it happen.”
Alex Ferguson has said that he is sure Manchester United will be able to compete with Chelsea and Manchester City in the transfer market this summer, although he acknowledged that United do not have the financial clout of their Premier League rivals.
There have been reports today that Roman Abramovich is ready to dump John Terry and make David Luiz the new captain at Stamford Bridge. The 32 year old defender has been unable to nail down a first team place under Rafa Benitez, and Abramovich is still keen to move on the old guard at Chelsea, with Frank Lampard also set to leave this summer.
News emerging this evening from German newspaper Bild claims that Jose Mourinho sent Robert Lewandowski a text ahead of their Champions League semi-final saying that he wants to sign him for Chelsea next season. You can read our quick take on it here.
Gary Cahill has issued a rallying call to his fellow players at Chelsea, saying they need a strong finish from everyone to nab a Champions League place ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and win the Europa League.
The proposed transfer for Andre Schurrle has been put in jeopardy as Bayer Leverkusen are believed to be demanding Kevin De Bruyne as part of any deal for the forward. Chelsea only want to loan out De Bruyne for another season, with interest rumoured from several German clubs in the Belgian player after his fine season at Werder Bremen.
Juan Mata has said he is proud and grateful after being included in the PFA Team of the Year. Mata was also shortlisted for the Player of the Year award, which was won by Gareth Bale.
There is speculation that Avram Grant is helping Chelsea’s attempts to sign Serbian striker Lazar Markovic. The 19 year old is currently at Partizan Belgrade, where Grant managed for five months last season, and is also being targeted by Inter.
Andrea Pirlo has revealed he was very close to joining Chelsea, even agreeing a deal with the Blues, before Silvio Berlusconi intervened to keep him at AC Milan. Pirlo was rumoured to be a target for Chelsea during Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure at Stamford Bridge.
