Chelsea 'make breakthrough' with bid for £7 million Brazilian - report

Brazil Goal

Reports in Italy have linked Chelsea with Brazilian midfielder Jorginho. Is he good enough for the Blues?

Chelsea are bound to be linked with dozens of players this summer, and a new name can be added to the list; Jorginho.

The Brazilian plays for Italian Serie B side Hellas Veronas, and in January was also touted in the country as an Arsenal target.

The reports stem from website alfredopedulla.com and claim that Chelsea have 'made a breakthrough' with an offer for the player, but are being rivalled by AC Milan.

It states: "In the last hour, there has been a definite breakthrough of Chelsea in the negotiation."

It goes on to add that the Blues are readying a £7 million offer for the player, before adding "(this is) a deal that could soon have further developments."

It is all very interesting, concerning a player who had been under the radar as far as Chelsea were concerned, especially as he has been plying his trade in the Italian second division.

At 21-years-old nonetheless, the defensive midfielder has enjoyed an impressive season with Hellas Verona, but remains untested at the highest level.

One possibiity, is that the report has been thrown out there to try and force the hand of AC Milan, to get them to show their intent to sign the player, but with the transfer window not yet even open, such tactics at this stage may be unnecessary.

The player has an Italian passport and so would not require a work permit, and is uncapped at international level. He has scored two goals in 38 games in Serie B for his club this campaign, with his side one point off a promotion spot in third in the table.

Here is a clip of him in action...
