Arsenal have been linked with French defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons. Who is he?

Reports from Metro suggest the Gunners have opened talks with Lyon about a potential move for Maxime Gonalons.

The 24-year-old has been linked with the Gunners for some time, but it seems Arsene Wenger is now moving ahead with the deal.

It was this time last year that Lukas Podolski’s summer arrival at the Emirates was announced. And Wenger is now attempting to tie up another early deal in an area of the field he must reinforce, reportedly for a fee of around €15million.

Here are five facts about the player…

1) Gonalons has made 37 appearances for French side Lyon this season, but most impressively he has played the full 90 minutes on every occasion.

2) He has already endeared himself to Arsenal fans by scoring in the Europa League against Tottenham back in February. Despite being a defensive midfielder, he has also chipped in with a further three league goals this campaign.

3) A graduate of Lyon’s youth academy, Gonalons has been at the club since the age of 10.

4) Should he arrive at Arsenal, Wenger’s first job will be in improving his disciplinary record. Ten yellow cards this season speak of a player who does his job well, but sometimes a little too well.

5) Gonalons is a full French international with six caps, having made his debut against the USA in 2011.

So what do you think?  Would he be a good signing for Arsenal?
