Nuri Sahin scored an absolute pearler for Borussia Dotmund this weekend.
‘’But I have left Brendan Rodgers, thanks be to God.”
The infamous words of Turkish international Nuri Sahin when asked about his time at Liverpool there and it is fair to say things did not work out for the Real Madrid man at Anfield.
While he spoke of his joy at wearing the red jersey and playing at Anfield it seems he and Rodgers never truly saw eye to eye during his short-term spell at the club; but it all started with such enthusiasm.
Liverpool fought off the advances of Premier League rivals Arsenal; where he had even completed a medical to bring him to the Premier League last summer and there was real hope he could be the ace up Rodgers’ sleeve this campaign.
In his five month loan spell however he played just 12 times and in January it was agreed he should terminate his deal and return to Real Madrid.
He was no there for long however as the next day he signed on at first club Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season; and he has not looked back.
This weekend was his best yet since his second debut for the side. Not only did he lay on the assist for Jakub Blaszczykowski for the teams second but he got the ball rolling in the 20th minute with this absolute worldy of a finish from distance.
Afterwards the team’s manager Jurgen Klopp described the goal as ‘world class’ as his team, weakened by wholesale changes ahead of the Champions League second leg on Tuesday, eked out a difficult 2-1 victory.
Oh well. It doesn’t seem like Liverpool are missing him. At the same time as Sahin scored his wonder-goal Liverpool were giving Newcastle United a 6-0 pasting at St James Park.
Seems everyone is a winner … unless you are a Newcastle fan that is?
