News and gossip from the past weekend at The Emirates.
Arsenal have drawn with Manchester United in the highly anticipated match between the two this weekend. Things could not have started any better for The Gunners when Theo Walcott ran through on goal and tucked the ball past David de Gea for 1-0. However the worst possible scenario soon hit them when Robin Van Persie converted a penalty he won to grab what proved to be the ultimate equaliser.
Arsenal will reportedly face a fight if they want to bring Argentine international Federico Fazio to the club this summer. The Sevilla defender has been in fine form this season but with the clubs financial problems he could be asked to leave and facilitate income at the Sanchez Pizjuan. However Liverpool are also keen on the player.
Arsenal reportedly sent their chief scout Steve Rowley to check out the performance of Loic Remy against Reading today. The Frenchman played in the 0-0 draw which saw both teams relegated from the Premier League and if they were making a decision based solely on this game then I would not expect Remy to be an Arsenal player any time soon.
Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a sensational return to Arsenal today. The rumour is Barca are willing to flog the Spanish international in order to create funds for a summer overhaul at the club and Arsenal may just benefit from the decision; but at the sum of £35 million.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Iker Casillas this summer. The Real Madrid keeper has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu with Jose Mourinho preferring Diego Lopez between the sticks since a publicised bust-up with the Spanish number one earlier in the season. However Mourinho is widely expected to leave the club this summer so a deal seems very unlikely.
Arsenal are preparing to make Lyon an offer for defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons in an attempt to shore up their midfield area. The French international could be available for £15 million.
Finally and Rene Adler, the German international linked with Arsenal this week, has admitted a transfer to Arsenal would be ‘an honour’. The keeper is currently on the books of Bundesliga outfit Hamburg SV who have severe financial problems.
