West Ham one-season-wonder in transfer tug-of-war with Serie A giants

Diamanti

Both Juventus and Inter Milan want to bring Alessandro Diamanti to their club this summer.

West Ham United fans remember Alessandro Diamanti? Of course he gave us all a reminder when he did this to us last summer…

Pretty hard to forget I know sorry for the painful reminder.

But this season he has followed up that moment with an excellent campaign for Bologna in Serie A. His seven goals and six assists this season have come amid excellent individual performances that have left much of Italy purring at his talents.

At West Ham he is most likely remembered as something of a mercurial prodigy. Undoubtedly he had a wand of a left foot and excellent vision but in the Premier League we only ever got to see this in fits and spurts. It was still enough to earn him runner-up in the Hammer of the Year voting by the clubs fans behind that season’s star man Scott Parker.

Needless to say his personality and playing style made him something of a fan favourite at the Boleyn despite the clubs relegation that term.

However after Gianfranco Zola was fired in the summer his time at West Ham seemed to reach its climax and he made the move to Brescia that summer and has since found his way to Bologna and the Italian national team.

Now it seems that steady progression is going to earn him his first major chance with a massive Serie A outfit.

Because according to reports in Italy not only is the 29-year-old playmaker being chased by Inter Milan but the reigning champions and league leaders Juventus are also now ready to join the race for his signature.

Indeed it would appear that the West Ham one season wonder has become one of Italy’s most wanted footballers.

He is also not expected to come cheap. With a current deal that runs until 2017 the Emilian-Romagnol side have no reason to sell on the cheap so either of the countries big teams will be asked to stump up for his services.

Who’d have thought that is where his career was destined when he fell over and double-footed a penalty against Liverpool in September 2009.

Did you always know Diamanti was destined for such great heights?
