Ernest Thierry Anang? Ever heard of him? No me neither until yesterday but apparently the teenage striker is a player we are going to be hearing a lot more about in the coming years; especially if he lives up to his very heady billing.
Because the 18-year-old Cameroonian youth international is being dubbed as the ‘next Samuel Eto’o' by those in the know from his West African homeland.
While usually when a top African player is being dubbed in such a way they are likely to be plying their youth trade in a destination far from their homeland such as France or Spain on this occasion that does not seem the case as he is still playing his football in Cameroon.
Currently Anang is playng with Bangante based outfit Panthere Sportive. If you are looking for players produced by the club who has gone on to achieve top level European football then it is is slim pickings. Bachirou Salou was a Togolese striker who played for the club before embarking on a German career with the likes of Borussia Monchengladbach, MSV Duisburg and Borussia Dortmund throughout the 90’s.
However if this teen can live up to the billing of the former Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid striker then he could very well become a far bigger name than their current benchmark.
According to a source quoted in The Sun…
“Thierry has the quality to play in Europe.”
His six goals in the league has certainly attracted attention but Arsenal are leading the way and their French speaking heritage may help the striker make the decision to join the youth team at The Emirates.
Being likened to Eto’o is one thing but living up to that hype is another. The Anzhi striker was already in the youth system at Real Madrid by the age of 16 so Anang may be two years behind his country’s record goal-scorer in terms of development.
But if the raw materials are there as reported than perhaps this lad could emulate a certain other Thierry in North London.
