Rafa Benitez believes that he has done a good job at Chelsea, and that his performance at Stamford Bridge will help him secure another role at a top club this summer. Chelsea fans have never accepted the Spaniard, but he believes winning the Europa League and finishing third would mark a good season.
Ahead of the clash with Basel tonight, Benitez reminded his players of how important qualifying for next year’s Champions League is, suggesting that their Premier League position is more of a priority than the Europa League:
"My message to the players has been simple - we have to be in the Champions League next season.
"For me, everything is a bonus. If we win the Europa League, finish in the top three, it will be fantastic. But the players have to realise it is even more important for them."
There have been reports that Chelsea have secured the return of Jose Mourinho as manager for next season, and that Radamel Falcao will also be heading to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. Last night we looked at the reports on HITC, with German newspaper Bild first breaking the news.
Fernando Torres has said he would be happy to battle with Falcao for a first team place at Chelsea, saying that he would not be surprised to see the Colombian arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer. The Spanish striker also said that he expects to stay at Chelsea for the duration of his contract, and that he is ready to finally produce his best form at the club.
The father of Brazilian striker Neymar has said that the 21 year old will move to play in Europe after the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. Chelsea and Manchester City are set to rival Barcelona and Real Madrid for Neymar’s signature.
Chelsea academy player Todd Kane has signed a new deal to keep him at the Blues until 2016. The 19 year old is currently on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
ON HITC today, we look at the agreement Chelsea have signed with Spanish club Malaga, and whether it might help them in their pursuit of Isco.
