It was just last weekend that Arsenal were linked with Schalke's star playmaker Julian Draxler.
The teenage star of the German challengers was touted for a £15 million switch to the Gunners, but those plans may have taken a hit.
It is all connected to the mega-transfer of Mario Gotze, who this week signed for Bayern Munich from rival Borussia Dortmund for an amazing 37 million Euros.
Gotze was a top target for Arsenal, even if realistically many may have conceded a switch to the Gunners was hopeful rather than likely.
No matter, the dreamers among the Gunners board will have been more than a little disappointed to see the 20-year-old talent seal his switch to Munich.
The knock-on effect is that Dortmund want to replace Gotze with Julian Draxler, meaning Arsenal could yet again be left watching on as another big money deal gets completed in the Bundesliga.
The source for the claims is German newspaper Bild who announced that Dortmund are eyeing the highly rated playmaker.
The paper also claims Dortmund would consider an attempt to try to re-buy Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United, if they felt United would be willing to sell, but accept that is pretty unlikely despite a fairly average opening season for the player in the Premier League.
Given the fact that Dortmund's healthy finances as a result of the Gotze deal means they can probably outbid Arsenal, as well as offering him the chance to stay in his homeland, means Draxler is a player the Gunners may well soon be able to cross off their list of potential summer targets.
Is Draxler good enough to replace Gotze at Dortmund? Do you see it happening?
