He has been the cream of the crop in recent weeks for the youth team but what got him gushing over The Gunners on Twitter last night?
A lot has been made in recent weeks of the talent possessed by Arsenal’s 16-year-old German Gedion Zelalem. Discovered whilst playing football in the United States the midfield prodigy has been spoken of as the heir to the vacated Cesc Fabregas throne and has been featuring regularly for the under-21’s with players five years his senior.
There has even been talk of him making the step-up to the first team next season; even at this most tender of ages it seems Carling Cup football at least will not be beyond him in 2013-14.
Immediately fear probably grips Arsenal fans when they hear of a player so talented in the ranks of their side. The Gunners faithful have become far to accustomed to watching their big name players walking out of the exit door and even at such a young age his loyalty to the North London club would be something the fans would love to see a palpable demonstration of; just to set their minds at ease.
So prepare to have your minds eased.
As with most of the footballing galaxy Zelalem sat down yesterday evening to soak up the Champions League semi-final tie between Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Of course Bayern gave the La Liga champions elect an absolute pasting; running out 4-0 winners.
Despite being a German himself Zelalem’s first thoughts turned to his current club on Twitter:
And he is right. We pointed out at the weekend that Arsenal fans have every right to be proud of their 2-0 victory in the Allianz Arena. Now Bayern have stretched their record since that defeat to nine wins and 35 goals; a quite extraordinary tally.
While at such a young age loyalties can indeed be fickle it is still nonetheless good to see one of the clubs most promising talents expressing his positive feelings for his employers on such a public platform.
Arsenal will hope he plays with that pride when an inevitable first-team call-up comes his way.
