How can Andrey Arshavin get one up on Arsenal next season?

Juventus Sevilla

Could a move to Sevilla be a way to get one over on Arsenal - via their city rivals Real Betis.

It has truly been a season to forget for Andrey Arshavin; and in all honesty it started that way.

The Russian found himself alienated from his own countryman after criticising the national team fans after an initially impressive Russian side were dumped out of Euro 2012 by Greece at the Group Stage.

Since then has been a season of bench-warming and reserve mingling which ended with the inevitable decision last week; he would not be offered a new contract at the end of the season.

His current deal expires in June and while it has long been maintained he is hoping of staying in the London area, or at least in England, it appears he may have to consider moving abroad as interest in his talents is certainly not as high as he would have anticipated considering his reputation.

However according to reports there is one team in the continent who may just be interested. Sevilla are currently loitering around mid-table in La Liga and struggling with serious financial issues.

Therefore the club are in the market for any bargain buys they can get their hands on this summer and the rumour is one such free agent is Arshavin himself.

So if he has finally sobered up after his eventful night out earlier in the month that was so well documented he may just have an opportunity here to get one over on Arsenal once again - by signing for the rivals of the London outfits Spanish sister club.

Earlier in the month Arsenal agreed a link with the La Liga outfit Real Betis that could see the two send each other players on loan in the future. Just this Wednesday we brought you the story of how Betis wanted four of Arsenal’s players next season and they currently have Joel Campbell at the club already.

For Arshavin a move to the clubs Seville rivals at the Sanchez Pizjuan may give him the opportunity to get one over on his former club in a roundabout way next season.

But with little to be excited with at the moment a roundabout vendetta may be just what Arshavin needs to get his footballing juices flowing once again. It is that or Azerbaijan; I think I know what I would choose.
