Everybody gets nervous ahead of a new job. It is only natural of course to feel anxious about taking on new responsibilities, targets and accountabilities.
That pressure can be even worse when you have been given a promotion. All of a sudden a sort of 2.0 version of yourself is expected. You with all the upgrades accept you haven’t yet had them; it is a learning process that takes time.
What you need is a nice easy week to bed yourself into your new role. Nothing too big hitting the fan so you can make sure you have everything under complete control. Is that so much to ask for?
Well spare a thought for Susan Black this morning everybody.
Black was appointed in the role of Liverpool FC Director of Communications just Friday seemingly giving her the weekend to delete congratulatory messages from acquaintances on Facebook and relax on Sunday before starting up for real first thing Monday morning.
Perhaps she might even just sit down and watch the Liverpool game on Sunday afternoon as well just to see how the boys get on.
Did Luis Suarez really just BITE A PLAYER!
As Director of Communications her job is to make sure the link between the public, media and club remains perfect; transparent and clear throughout all processes.
What she doesn’t need is a contentious decision like this coming up on her first day; in fact it is probably the biggest piece of on-pitch football news of the season.
Apology letters here, rendezvousing with the FA there; what a nightmare start to the job.
She of course cannot do a worse job then the former employee Jen Chang. Black was promoted from the Internal Communications head job she held since 2011 to replace her controversial predecessor.
Chang of cause got in an almost farcical and rather frightening altercation with Liverpool Twitter spoofer ‘Duncan Jenkins’ after paranoid fears of a mole at the club regarding his excellent educated guesswork over Fabio Borini.
Therefore Black doesn’t exactly have big boots to follow and as long as she doesn’t threaten any of the clubs loyal followers then she is doing better than the last guy.
But needless to say Luis Suarez will not be on her Christmas Card list.
