VIDEO: Chelsea target Andre Schurrle scores sublime strike in Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen

After a week of intense speculation linking him with the London club he topped it off with an excellent performance against Hoffenheim.

This week Chelsea have consistently been linked with the signing of Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle. The German international has been a reported long term target for the Blues and now the interest has intensified with talks officially confirmed between the two clubs this week.

The Bundesliga outfit confirmed the news themselves on Friday with a club spokesman telling BBC Sport

"Rudi Voller and Michael Reschke talked to Chelsea yesterday. No decisions have been made. We are talking, nothing more."

The 22-year-old had scored 11 goals for the team before this weekend and can play anywhere along the front-line and has earned a total of 22 caps for Nationalmannschaft.

This weekend he gave further reason to believe the hype with an exquisite individual performance against Hoffenheim in a resounding 5-0 victory at the BayArena.

Not content with assisting the first goal for centre-forward Stefan Kiessling it only took him 15 minutes to do his bidding when it came to goalscoring; and it really was some goal.

After picking up the ball on the left flank he cut in on to his stronger right foot, steadied his self, and unleashed an inch perfect curling effort into the far corner of Koen Casteels’ goal.

While that was certainly the highlight of his performance he certainly was not done just yet. After Keissling added his second and Bayer’s third it was the turn of Schurrle again after he tapped home an awkward cross from Michal Kadlec to make it 4-0.

There was still time left for Stefan Reinartz to make it 5-0 for a resounding win in the North Rhine-Westphalia.

The chances of him coming to the club seem to hinge on the decision of current Werder Bremen loanee Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian is reportedly wanted by Voller and co to make up for the loss of one of their most valuable assets so securing a loan agreement for him may be the first port of call.

Regardless, based on his recent form, Schurrle looks like being a great addition to the Premier League should Chelsea conclude their business without a glitch.
