Watford FC have divided opinion this season with their utilisation of the loan market. Last summer the Pozzo family took over at Vicarage Road and immediately employed Gianfranco Zola as their new manager. The Italian owners also have control of two other football teams in Europe; Granada in Spain and Udinese in Italy and in order to improve the fortunes of the Hertfordshire club they quickly exploited the open loan market in the Football League in order to bring success to the club.
The likes of Neuton, Marco Cassetti, Daniel Pudil, Joel Ekstrand, Fernando Forestieri and Championship Player of the Season Matej Vydra were all brought in as loan signings from the pair of continental clubs. Extraordinarily Steve Leo Beleck was even loaned out after being loaned in due to a loophole in the rules regarding foreign based loan-signings.
The results have been positive. While recent results are likely to see Hull City beat The Hornets to the second automatic promotion place the club has still performed wonders this season and they have an excellent opportunity of making it into the Premier League.
It is a model that has proved controversial but is perfectly acceptable in the current rules and according to reports in France today it seems to be a model that has perked the interest of a current Premier League chairman.
QPR manager Harry Redknapp continues to say he is not giving up on survival. The season could be finished and ‘Arry would still probably be shaking his head and insisting his team could survive.
But the daunting likelihood seems to be that QPR will not survive this season despite the widespread investment in the club. When this occurs it is widely expected the wage-bill will have to be dramatically trimmed despite the wealth of Tony Fernandes and Lakshmi Mittal.
Meaning they will be looking for an influx of talented players.
Which brings us to French outfit Lille.
Reports from foot.anglais claim that Fernandes is planning on buying the French club and developing a partnership between the two clubs; which may see the likes of Salamon Kalou playing at Loftus Road and Adel Taarabt at Le Grand Stade Lille Metropole.
Lille have long been after a buyer in order to pump funds into the club and this news will need to be watched carefully over the coming months.
Would you like QPR to do a Watford?
