Tottenham Hotspur latest: City star could miss clash

Spurs may have a boost ahead of their crucial Premier League home encounter with Manchester CIty this weekend, after the visitor's assistant boss David Platt admitted his side were battling 'mental fatigue' after playing big games against Manchester United and Chelsea last week. Spurs had last weekend off and will hope they can use their rest to their advantage in Sunday's 4pm kick-off.

Meanwhile Sergio Aguero, who could have missed the encounter through suspension but is now free to play, has a fitness battle to contend with, after it was revealed he is nursing a minor hamstring strain. City are not yet ruling him out, and will see how his injury heals ahead of Sunday.

Tottenham's injured reserve goalkeeper is already busy working on rehabilitating his injury, which cut short what was proving to be a useful loan spell for him at German club Hoffenheim. The 32-year-old has had to have four pins inserted into help heal a broken hand, an important injury for a goalkeeper. Gomes has one year left on his contract and this week said he was keen on a return to former club PSV.

Spurs starlet and England under-21 midfielder Tom Carroll has been talking about his idols in an interview with the Tottenham Journal, revealing it is former player Luka Modric, now of Real Madrid who he looks up to the most, along with Manchester United's Paul Scholes. He has also praised manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has kept him involved in and around the first team throughout 2012/13.
