Earlier this month we ran a story on Reading striker Uche Ikpeazu. The Londoner has been in sensational form for the Berkshire club this season banging in goals left, right and centre in an impressive academy campaign leaving a pocket of Reading fans wondering if he is worth a go in the first team at the end of the current season.
Physically he is certainly built for the occasion. Standing at 6ft 3ins tall and weighing in at 92 and a half kilos he is a tremendous physical specimen for one so young.
We compared his current trajectory to that of his hero, Didier Drogba, and at the same age ‘Drogs’ was struggling for football with French outfit Levallois.
Which begged the question; if Chelsea want the next Drogba then he is quite literally just down the road playing for The Biscuitmen.
Of course many a Chelsea fan would have turned their nose up at the story and understandably so; how many times have we heard of the next this the next that and then that player comes to fade away with time.
But Uche had other ideas and decided to give everyone a reminder of his talents when the two sides actually met at the weekend.
Chelsea travelled to Hogwood Park knowing that The Young Royals have been in decent form recently but could not have expected the second half onslaught they received in a 3-0 defeat and who grabbed all three of Reading’s goals; Uche Ikpeazu.
It took his tally of goals for the season to a whopping 26 goals in 23 games and his tally of hat-tricks to four.
Reading currently sit in fourth place in the Youth Elite League and Ikpeazu is the top scorer at the level so his achievements deserve far more credit than has been the case so far.
If Chelsea fans were in any doubt about how talented this boy is they should not be after the one-man show wrecking balled his way to a match-ball against the best the Londoners could offer on the day.
Cheers for all the compliment really appreciate it on to the next on.— UcheIkpeazu9 (@UcheIkpeazu) April 13, 2013
