Hernanes: The 'Prophet' who could bring further success to Manchester City

Etihad Stadium

Lazio playmaker Hernanes, nicknamed 'The Prophet' could be on his way to the Etihad this summer in a deal that few saw coming.

Manchester City could offer a long term deal to 27-year-old Hernanes, one of the best play makers in European football this season.

All of the focus and attention seems to have been on the high profile striker targets that Manchester City have been apparently interested in, which mans this is one positive deal they could well sneak through under the radar.

It doesn’t seem like a headline grabbing rumour which could work in the club’s favour and he’s certainly a player who is good enough to play for the club.

He’s almost like a David Silva 2.0 sort of player in the respect that he plays a similar creative role in his team but tries to get on the end of more chances; he has nine goals and five assists from Serie A game this season.

The price isn’t an issue because of the resources Manchester City have available, if they want him then he will not only provide competition for that attacking midfield role at Manchester City, he seems good enough to improve the other players around him.

A fee of around £20 million is possible considering he has two years left to run on his current deal with Lazio and his current status as one of the more important players at the club.

That attacking play making role has sometimes been an area where City have struggled this season, which could be a reason for Roberto Mancini going out and grabbing a player like this.

His presence in that position could free up someone like Silva and release the pressure over the entire midfield to forcibly create chances for Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez to convert next season.

Hernanes seems like the sort of player who could link the midfield with the attack well, providing he is given the right sort of protection in the middle and the ball is able to flow through him, utilising his best asset which is setting up and scoring goals.

It could also become a very easy deal for City to complete and one they can play hard ball over in a financial sense.

It’s going to be a very tall order for Lazio to currently finish in the Champions League places, which gives them something they can offer the player which he isn’t going to get if he stays where he is.

If they fail to get into the huge European competition next season then Mancini has definite grounds to try and poach him away from his old club and offer him a solid role in the Manchester City team.

City fans, worth a gamble?
