While Arsenal were busy taking on Everton in an eventual 0-0 draw at the Emirates last night, across the Channel in France a crunch cup quarter-final tie was taking place.
It pitted St Etienne against visitors Lorient, fourth against eighth had it been a Ligue One clash.
At the centre of attention was St Etienne's star striker, Gabon ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, 23, who has an impressive 17 goals and 13 assists in the league alone this season.
It is form which has seen Arsenal take an interest in the flamboyant forward, dubbed the 'African Neymar', with Newcastle United and Fiorentina also interested.
He was controversially dropped to the bench by the hosts, concentrating on their league form and rested for the clash, but still had time to make an impact.
The game took a swing in favour of the visitors just before half-time, when Maxime Barthelme fired Lorient in front.
Trailing 1-0, the prospect of crashing out of the competition saw St Etienne call upon Aubameyang, and he did not disappoint.
In the 74th minute he made an impact, latching onto a through ball to fire home and level up the tie.
Any watching scouts would not have failed to be impressed with his finishing, but they may also have taken note of another striker enjoying a standout season.
Jeremie Aliadiere, the former Arsenal starlet, who had spells at Middlesbrough and on loan at West Ham and Celtic, is enjoying his best ever season.
He started the game, and was a threat throughout. In the 90th minute he swept home a cross to give his side the lead and win the match, taking them through to the semi-finals.
It was Aliadiere's 18th goal of the season, beforehand he had never even reached double figures for any side.
Beset by injuries, he is now 30-years-old, and enjoying his renaissance, in with a chance of winning a medal by time the season is out. Don't be surprised if like Aubameyang he too is linked with a big money summer switch.
