Liverpool latest: Including Canos talks and Onyedinma

All of the latest Liverpool news.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed the club will be in a much better position for the start of the 2013/2014 season. Liverpool struggled through the early part of the current campaign which many blame for the club’s current league position outside the top four.

Liverpool could miss out in the race to sign Ashley Williams. The Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal officials are already talking to his representatives over a permanent deal, which could go through in the summer. Liverpool have to hope the talks fall through as they did last January.

Liverpool could consider spending most of their summer budget on Manchester City’s Micah Richards. The club could miss out on Ashley Williams which makes the links to the City defender more significant as recent reports have been suggesting a possible summer deal.

The Catalan press has reported that Sergio Canos’ representatives are already in Liverpool negotiating a summer deal. Liverpool are one of several Premier League sides that have been tipped to sign the striker who can also play down the right as a winger.

The Daily Star has reported that Liverpool are in a battle against Arsenal to sign Fred Onyedinma from Championship side Millwall. The 16-year-old has made big strides in the Millwall youth teams this season after progressing through the club’s academy, grabbing Premier League attention in the process.

Liverpool right back Glen Johnson says he is aiming to hit his best form over the rest of the season. Johnson has been held back by a mixture of injury and inconsistency this season which has seen his position taken up by talented youngster Andre Wisdom who has broken into the senior side.

Glen Johnson has joined the list of Liverpool figures praising winger Stewart Downing. Johnson has given his support to the midfielder after he took a lot of criticism through the early part of the season and nearly left the club in the last transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers seems to be adopting a very similar transfer policy to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. Wenger has been notorious in recent years for not overspending and only signing players better than the ones he has. Liverpool’s reported lack of funds could be a reason behind the similarities at Liverpool.

Liverpool legend Bill Shankly has been immortalised in stamp form by the Royal Mail. Shankly was included along with several other Britons who all have significant anniversary dates in the current calendar year, which is another tribute to the history of the club.
