Tottenham Hotspur latest: Mixed news ahead of City clash

All the latest Tottenham Hotspur news and views.

Younes Kaboul is in the Tottenham under-21 squad for tonight to face Manchester United, as he steps up his comeback from injury. It will be his second appearance after featuring in the draw against West Ham last Monday night.

The Spurs under-21 side face Manchester United this evening, in a match which pits January signing Ezekiel Fryers against his former club.

The FA have delivered bad news to Spurs ahead of their weekend clash with Manchester City, by deciding to take no action against Sergio Aguero for this two footed stamp on Chelsea defender David Luiz in yesterday's FA Cup Final. A retrospective ban, which had appeared likely, would have ruled him out of the City-Spurs clash this weekend, but instead he is free to play. The Argentine is in fine form having netted winners over Manchester United and Chelsea in his last two games.

The good news is delivered by the club's star defender. Jan Vertonghen has been rallying the Tottenham troops ahead of the weekend, insisting the club can bounce back from disappointments in recent matches to finish the season strongly. He has indicated there will be returning reinforcements ahead of the clash. He said: "A lot of players could be coming back, important players." While he did not allude to who, his inside information should give Spurs fans plenty of reason to feel confident that star man Gareth Bale could return.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been goading rivals Spurs by insisting the Gunners want to put as much pressure on the club by beating Everton tomorrow night. Arsenal can go four points clear of Tottenham with a win, but Spurs do have two games in hand.

There is plenty of talk about the club's left-back situation with it claimed Benoit Assou-Ekotto could be heading to Monaco in the summer. He could be joined there by Spurs target Joao Moutinho who is an ambitious target for the cash-rich club at the top of Ligue Two in France. The latest name linked with replacing BAE at Spurs is not Fabio Coentrao, but Inter Milan left-back Alvaro Pereira who played under Andre Villas-Boas at Porto.
