A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
Following the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, Cesar Azpilicueta has said that Chelsea’s failure to win big games this season is a worry for the club, and that the players are feeling the effects of a busy season:
“It's [fatigue] the reality.
"We've played 15 games more than Man City and we played three days ago in Moscow. But we're professionals.”
Amid speculation he is set to join Barcelona, Neymar has insisted that he has not made any decision about his future. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in the Brazilian striker.
Dortmund have reportedly offer £14.5million for Chelsea youngster Kevin De Bruyne, who has spent this season on loan in Germany at Werder Bremen. There has been speculation that De Bruyne will go on loan to Bayer Leverkusen as part of a Chelsea bid for Andre Schurrle, with the Belgian impressing several teams in the Bundesliga this year. On HITC today, we look at whether Chelsea should cash in on De Bruyne before he plays for them?
David Luiz is confident that Chelsea can bounce back from the loss to Manchester City and claim a top four place in the Premier League. The Brazilian defender said that the team could take plenty of positives from their second half performance against City:
“You need to take positive things. For us it was a great game. In the second half we controlled the game, we controlled one big team and created a lot of opportunities.”
Luiz has also suggested that Sergio Aguero should apologise for the two footed challenge he put in on the Brazilian during the FA Cup match on Sunday. Aguero will face no retrospective action from the FA as Chris Foy was ruled to have seen the incident.
On HITC today, we ask if David Luiz is a Chelsea captain of the future after his impressive displays this season, and also look at if Rafa Benitez’s decision to leave out Frank Lampard and John Terry at Wembley was a parting stab at Chelsea.
Chelsea are one of several sides that have been linked with highly rated striker Andrej Kramaric, who is currently top scorer in the Croatian league. The 21 year old’s agent said teams around Europe were looking at Kramaric.
Despite the speculation suggesting Jose Mourinho was set for a Stamford Bridge return this summer, Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini has emerged as the front runner for the position. There have also been suggestions that Rafa Benitez could yet stay at Chelsea despite the hostility directed towards the Spaniard from the Chelsea fans.
