Ronaldo scored his 49th and 50th goals of the season in a demolition of Athletico Bilbao yesterday, by virtue of a rocket of an early free-kick and a powerful second half header.
The plaudits have naturally come flooding in for him as he continues his seemingly unstoppable form, the last time he failed to score in a match was two months ago.
But not everybody is impressed with him.
Enter former Liverpool youth starlet Mikel San Jose, currently playing for the side Ronaldo steamrollered last night - Athletic Bilbao.
Perhaps it is simply the partisan Liverpool-United rivalry in him coming out, or may be he simply has a genuine disliking for the Portuguese dynamo.
Here's what he had to say after his side's 3-0 loss.
"If Cristiano was devoted only to play football he would have more respect."
Ouch. In other words, Ronaldo lacks respect because of his off-pitch distractions - multi-million pound sponsorship deals and model girlfriend.
But can San Jose really say if he wasn't in Ronaldo's shoes he wouldn't be any different?
Perhaps he would. San Jose insists he himself concentrates solely on football, indicating if he were of the same status as Ronaldo he would lead a Lionel Messi-like existence, with a wholesome clean-cut image.
That may just be true, but with the Bilbao defender not likely to attain the same heights as Ronaldo we will never know and he simply sounds bitter after a defeat.
But if his words and thoughts are backed by several fellow professionals, it may just hint at a resentment which has prevented Ronaldo from usurping Messi for the Ballon d'Or over the past four consecutive seasons.
