Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of goalkeeping options ahead of next season. Who are the possible candidates for Arsene Wenger to sign in the summer?
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, the future of the Arsenal goalkeeping spot is likely to remain a mystery heading into the summer.
Wojciech Szczesny is currently out of favour having been dropped after a disappointing season with Arsene Wenger citing 'mental fatigue', and in his place is unlikely 'safe hands' Lukasz Fabianski.
Fabianski himself has an uncertain future as his contract expires in June, as has Vito Mannone, who has already indicated he plans to return to Italy.
The Gunners have been linked with a whole host of goalkeepers in recent weeks, here are the 10 most discussed options...
Barcelona number one Valdes has made it clear he wants to leave the Camp Nou this summer for a new challenge, and he would certainly get that at the Emirates. Arsenal have been strongly linked with signing him, and are said to have set aside around £12 million to bid for his services. He is 31 and will be able to provide some much needed experience and winning mentality to the next round.
Fernando Muslera is the Uruguayan number one, and veteran of their successful 2010 World Cup campaign. The 26-year-old currently plays for Galatasaray, but has opened the door to a summer switch after admitting he would love to play in the Premier League. He would cost Arsenal around £14 million.
Iker Casillas is not a name many would have expected to be on this list, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper was last week linked with a summer switch to either Arsenal or Liverpool. It may sound like a long shot, but the stopper has been out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season and if the 'Special One' decides to stay in Madrid he may be forced to look for a move.
Belgian number one goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is likely to be a much cheaper option than any of the previous three mentioned, but comes with handy Premier League experience from Sunderland. Mignolet is facing increasing competition for his international place from Courtois and is likely to look for a 'big move' away from Wearside this summer.
Pepe Reina is a name which has been linked with Arsenal on and off for the best part of two seasons now. The Spaniard has had an indifferent season at Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers may be tempted to change things up at Anfield in a similar way to Arsene Wenger this summer. The experienced Reina would come at a price, which could put Arsenal off, but could be a valuable mentor to Szczesny.
Asmir Begovic was strongly linked to Arsenal this week, but whether the Gunners want to pay the £15 million price tag on his head is another matter. Begovic has been touted for a move to Manchester United, but with David de Gea's form in good health of late the Red Devils may stick with him and leave the door open for Arsenal to move.
Julio Cesar could be a bargain addition to Arsenal. The Brazilian has been excellent in a dismal QPR side and is likely to want to stay in London, but the Hoops will need to sell him to shift him from their wage bill, and Arsenal could attempt to swoop in and snap him up ahead of any of their rivals.
Dutchman Michel Vorm has impressed at Swansea over the past couple of years, but when he was injured this season, deputy Gerhard Tremmel showed Michael Laudrup he could afford to cash in on the stopper. Vorm could boost his international career by joining Arsenal and would cost around £8 million.
Sporting Lisbon are in financial trouble which has led them to look at selling a number of top players. One of these is goalkeeper Rui Patricio, 25, who was linked to the Gunners by the Express a week ago. Patricio is the Portuguese number one, and Sporting want in the region of £12 million for him but may have to settle for less.
20-year-old Italian goalkeeper Mattia Perin was linked to Arsenal last month as an alternative to their current options, after impressing at Serie A side Pescara. He is on loan there from Genoa, who are though to want to retain him, but with Europe's big clubs taking a look they may elect to cash in on him.
