Neil Warnock’s resignation as Leeds United manager has brought former Reading boss Brian McDermott into replace him at Elland Road.
McDermott, who replaced current Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers as Royals’ boss in 2010, took charge of Leeds United for the first time this weekend.
He got off to a grand start, winning 2-1 against Sheffield Wednesday after two second half goals.
The new manager will not find himself alone in the city, literally.
For Leeds Rhinos, the city’s rugby league side, are also managed by a chap called Brian McDermott.
His rugby namesake is eight years his junior and represented both England and Great Britain as a forward before ending his playing career in 2004.
With the senior McDermott becoming Leeds United’s new manager we could very well hear a new chant ringing around the city on a matchday –
‘There’s only two Brian McDermotts!’
Have you ever heard of such an instance happening anywhere else?
