Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has fast become one of Europe’s most sought after talents after his exploits with St Etienne this season. The Gabonese striker has been the second best front-man in Ligue 1 this season behind only Zlatan Ibrahimovic; pretty illustrious company I think you will agree.
And while he may sometimes make the headlines more for diamond encrusted boots or fluorescent sports cars it is his performances on the pitch that have been catching the eye this term.
The likes of Newcastle United, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been linked with the player along with Serie A outfit Fiorentina; who see him as the perfect replacement for the reportedly outgoing Stevan Jovetic.
So while we may all just be hoping to see him play in the Premier League there is also an Italian side who might just be hoping the same thing.
That team is AC Milan and the root cause of their Premier League desire for the 23-year-old striker is nothing more than embarrassment.
For Aubameyang, as many of you will know, was a youth-team player at the Rossoneri in his early days. He joined the Milan youth team in 2007 where his older brothers Willy and Catilina were also present and his father Yaya is currently working as a scout.
But while letting the elder brothers go has not proved a problem, with both now back playing in their homeland, letting Aubameyang go in 2011 after several uninspiring loan-spells in France has come back to bite them in the backside.
But they will hope at least that it will not do so on home turf. While Fiorentina’s interest is bad enough the rumours that Inter Milan are also on the prowl will leave even more men smacking their foreheads in frustration at the San Siro.
If he was to join either Serie A side and find considerable success at the detriment of AC Milan it would be a truly embarrassing moment for the club.
Therefore they may just be begging Newcastle United or Arsenal get their man this summer.
Although Aubameyang himself has not yet confirmed a move. If Saint Etienne qualify for the Champions League he says that he might stick around.
Then Milan will just hope to avoid Les Verts in the competition.
