Possible Arsenal transfers: Koscielny out, Dante in?

Arsenal should try to sign Dante from Bayern Munich if the Germans go after Laurent Koscielny.

Reports this morning have suggested Bayern Munich could try and poach Laurent Koscielny from Arsenal, which is something the club would be very naïve to let happen without a fight.

Fortunately, Arsene Wenger is not a stupid manager and if the rumours turn out to be true and that becomes a deal which looks more likely, he should push to get a defender coming in the other direction.

Dante is an experienced and key centre back who would undoubtedly fit Arsenal’s style of play and improve their back four as a unit in a number of different ways.

Koscielny is a very good player in possession of the ball so if they lose him, that’s definitely something the club will need to replace and it’s something which Dante would allow them to maintain.

The reason Arsenal have to push for a swap deal like this is because, whichever way you look at it, Koscielny is one of the club’s best defenders and missing an opportunity to replace him in the process of letting him go would be a mistake.

Wenger has also only ever been a manager who will bring players in who are better than the ones he already has and a deal replacing Koscielny with Dante, is something that would definitely live up to that philosophy.

As good a defender as Koscielny is, he is not at the same level as Dante currently which makes the arrival of the Brazilian more appealing for Arsenal than losing their French defender.

He has retained his place in a Bayern Munich side which has cantered to a Bundesliga title and has yet again reached the last four of the Champions League, with a semi-final tie against Barcelona on the cards.

It’s for that reason that Arsenal have to act quickly if they are going to sound out Dante over a possible move to North London.

If Pep Guardiola gets into the manager’s office at the German champions before Arsenal can get onto their officials and try to get something sorted, they are only going to lose a player, and not replace him.

Dante seems like a very Guardiola style of player with many of the qualities which make him perfect for the Arsenal defence; speed, technique, height, authority and leadership.

Very few can argue that Dante is a better centre back than Koscielny so if there is any possibility that Arsenal can do this deal, they need to do it fast before Guardiola gets a foot in through the front door and stops it.

Arsenal fans, would you replace Koscielny with Dante, or stick with the Frenchman?
