Liverpool are leading the race to sign Swansea City defender Ashley Williams. News today has suggested that Arsenal had a £9 million for the player turned down last January, which has put them off of a fee of over £10 million which Liverpool will have to come up with.

Raheem Sterling will not be available for Liverpool’s match against Reading this weekend. The young winger has been struggling with a thigh problem, which he’s failed to get sorted out in time for the match which means he’s unlikely to be part of the squad.

Stewart Downing is expected to return to the Liverpool team to face Reading this weekend. Downing has been carrying a slight knock but is fit enough to keep his place in the side. Jordan Henderson is also expected to retain his place alongside Lucas and Steven Gerrard.

Jamie Carragher has revealed he is confident that star striker Luis Suarez will stay at the club beyond this season. There seem to be new stories every day on a new club being linked with the striker, but Carragher says he is confident Suarez will remain committed to the club.

Martin Skrtel has vowed to fight for his place in the Liverpool first team. Skrtel was recently replaced by veteran Jamie Carragher and there have been some suggestions from online news sources that Skrtel could be sold on in the summer transfer window, with a replacement coming in.

TalkSport has reported that Barcelona have given up in their pursuit of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina. The Spanish giants are reportedly looking at a number of possible replacements who already play in Spain, increasing the chances that Reina will stay at Anfield.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was one of the players who helped to pay for the recent treatment of Paul Gascoigne. Gazza was treated for alcoholism, which was enabled due to the financial aid provided by Gerrard and other professional players including Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

Lucas has revealed his confidence in everything Brendan Rodgers is trying to achieve at the club. Liverpool have had a mixed season, which seems to have turned a corner as they build a young side, with a little experience thrown in which Lucas says he’s proud to be part of.

Stewart Downing has revealed he is wary of the competition for places at the club and he will not get complacent over his own position. Downing has emerged as one of the most important wide players for the side in recent weeks, as he’s managed to key youngster Raheem Sterling on the bench.
