News and gossip from the past week at Goodison Park.
David Moyes has launched a stinging but clearly motivational dig at Belgian international forward Kevin Mirallas about his physical condition. Moyes suggested that the former Olympiakos man needs to man up by stating:
The Scot will hope his strong words inspire rather than demotivate the talented player who has shown glimpses of his best in recent weeks.
Everton face QPR this season and early team news is positive. Currently only long term absentee Tony Hibbert is out with a calf problem - although he did return to action again this week for the under-21’s.
Leon Osman may be having his finest ever season in an Everton shirt - a season that has seen him make his international bow. Such form has seen Everton want to tie him down to a new long-term deal at the club but it is being reported today that contract talks have stalled over an extension to his deal that ends in 2014.
Goal.com believe that FC Porto boss Vitor Pereira is being lined up as a successor to David Moyes should the Scot leave this summer. Moyes’ contract expires this summer with no progress on the signing of a new one it seems Everton are preparing for the worst with this rumour. Pereira is also out of contract in the summer.
News now on Everton’s progress in the FA Youth Cup; which has unfortunately come to an end. They were beaten 4-2 by Norwich City at Goodison Park last Friday and Kevin Sheedy is hoping they will respond positively to the disappointment in the league.
News from earlier in the week now and the announcement that Phillip Neville will leave the club this summer. The veteran utility man has been at the club for eight years but is out of contract this summer and after a season plagued by injuries it seems he is ready for a new challenge in his career. He has previously mentioned a desire to drop down the leagues and get into coaching.
Finally and on the site today Lewis Doe has assessed what implied meaning could lay in David Moyes declaration that Phil Jagielka will be the clubs captain next season.
