Even if the vultures were not already circling around Loftus Road, Wigan's last gasp equaliser on Sunday will have given them plenty of incentive to start picking out the players in their side they might pursue if Harry Redknapp cannot keep the R's up this season.
Loic Remy had been linked with plenty of Premier League teams before his move to QPR, and his fine start at the club with not have discouraged interest in the striker, but if Arsenal are looking at poaching players from their London rivals, then Julio Cesar would be a fine place to start.
The Brazilian keeper raised garnered plenty of attention when he made the move to QPR last summer, as despite being rated as perhaps the best keeper in the world as recently as 2010, no one quite knew what to expect from him in the Premier League after a mixed couple of seasons at Inter.
However he has been superb for QPR this year, demonstrating that even at 33 he has plenty to offer at the top level, and with his recent statement suggesting he would like to stay in England next season, Arsenal could offer him a place at a top Premier League club.
Wojiech Szczesny has failed to kick on after en encouraging start to his career at Arsenal, and Lukasz Fabianski has not shown himself to be an outstanding replacement for his compatriot since taking the gloves in recent weeks. Whilst Wenger has shown admirable commitment to young players in the past, Arsenal could really use a reliable figure in goal to settle their defence at times, and Cesar has all the experience needed to be a huge success at the Emirates.
Jose Reina has also been suggested as a possible target for Arsenal, but Cesar would not only be an easy target to acquire if QPR are relegated, Liverpool’s keeper has shown a worrying tendency for errors in recent seasons. Given their squad will also need strengthening in other areas, a move for Cesar might be the perfect deal for Arsenal as QPR seek to remove his wages from their bill, and the Brazilian could make a real impact in goal for Wenger’s side next year.
