Mourinho might pick City Blues over Chelsea

Jose Mourinho is linked with a departure from Real Madrid this summer, as he looks for pastures new, following his toughest season since taking the reigns at the Bernabeu in 2010.

Speculation linking him with a move back to the Premier League could be pure conjecture, however, fans of Chelsea are hoping the fantasy becomes a reality – he remains their most successful manager in the Roman Abramovich era, winning 6 trophies with the Blues in just 3 years.

Meanwhile, up in Manchester, Roberto Mancini’s job is hanging in the balance at City after the current Premier League title-holders fell behind rivals and league leaders Manchester United by a whopping 15 points, even before the derby on Monday night.

Their poor title campaign only compounds City’s disappointing exit from the Champions League at the first group stages, having not won a single group game against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Ajax.

The English champions are currently chasing only the FA Cup this term and they face the current cup holders Chelsea, co-incidentally, in the semi-finals.

Perhaps the two Blues will be battling it out once again come the summer – this time for the ‘special one’, Jose Mourinho.

Mancini will likely find himself on the scrapheap this summer – despite a strong season last term, his side have failed to match it this season, and rumours linking the likes of Pep Guardiola with his position started to surface at the back end of last year.

However, the former Barcelona manager has now agreed to take over at Bayern Munich, meaning the abundance of candidates to replace Mancini has been dramatically decreased.

Whilst Chelsea fans will be hoping Mourinho comes back to Stamford Bridge where they will believe he belongs, I’m not so sure. The Portuguese is linked with interest from super-rich Paris Saint-Germain, which would also be a tempting proposition for the coach who has won the Champions League with two different clubs and hopes to break records this season with a third.

PSG are emerging as a new giant on the continent and there are high hopes that the ‘project’ there will cement them as a new European superpower. City have been ardently trying to cement themselves as just that for 5 years now, since the takeover by Abu Dhabi United Group’s Sheikh Mansour back in 2008.

The owner eventually brought in Mancini in 2009 to replace Mark Hughes but the Italian’s job now looks increasingly insecure, to say the least. However, the dilemma for the owner and the chief executives will be, if Mancini has to go, someone better has to replace him.

There is no better than Jose Mourinho who could very well be returning to the Premier League but, due to his previous rift with Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich who, I might add, paid him around £20 million to get lost in 2007, I think, if he does return to England, it will be the City Blues, leaving Chelsea fans with the blues.

In my humble opinion, I reckon he'll probably go to Paris. But, hey, maybe Chelsea could get Carlo Ancelotti back. Every cloud, eh?
