Forget Di Maria, Manchester United should be after this Hungarian winger

Manchester United have been linked with Angel Di Maria of Real Madrid but Szabolcs Huszti could be a much better alternative.

If United fans ever needed further proof that the club needed a fresh wide player, it’s never been more evident than during the Manchester derby last night as the team was outgunned in the middle and not effective out on the wings.

United are due to get Bebe and Wilfried Zaha back from loan deals this summer, but Sir Alex Ferguson may opt for a re-think in terms of his wide men, looking to inject some experience into the team.

Szabolcs Huszti of Hannover 96 should be that wide player and there are plenty of reasons United should go after him, giving him a chance to be effective in a United shirt.

To begin with, his stats this season have been very good. He’s one of the leading assist providers with nine assists and he’s scored nine goals in an average Bundesliga side.

Those are numbers that United fans would prefer Ashley Young, Nani or Antonio Valencia to have but unfortunately, they just haven’t produced any sort of consistency at all this season.

It could also be a good idea to sign a player who has a lower profile and may be looking to try and prove a point. Huszti is an extremely fit individual who works box to box very well, although he’s at his best going forward.

He left Zenit St Petersburg after spending a long time on the bench and he may have been looking for a bigger move, which will now be possible because of how effective he’s been for Hannover.

One of the only negatives is that he’s slightly older at 29-years-old but Ferguson has the younger ages of Bebe and Zaha to fall back on, when Huszti needs a rest as he’s unlikely to be able to play constantly throughout the season.

This will also be a very good value move over trying to sign Di Maria from Real Madrid, which is a deal that could cost United a lot of money.

If that is a deal they go after and negotiations don’t go well, it could also hinder the club’s chances of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo in the future which seems to be something they would definitely consider according to the latest rumours and reports.

In short, United need consistency and reliability out wide and that seems to be something which Huszti should be able to guarantee.

It’s not a signing that is going to set the world on fire but there are other positions and other targets for United, which will require a lot more cash to force through this summer.

If United dangle the carrot then neither Hannover or Huszti seem to be in a situation where they can play hard ball.

United fans, should a wide man be the priority this summer?
