Alvaro Negredo, linked with Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer window is a man in form.
As Tottenham lurch between the injury-prone Jermain Defoe, and the unpredictable Emmanuel Adebayor - There is a player in Spain who has been setting La Liga alight in recent months.
The 'man on fire' is one who Spurs were in negotiations for in January, only to see him remain in Spain; Alvaro Negredo.
Negredo was the subject of strong transfer links in the middle of the month, with Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido flying to London to discuss a transfer with interested parties.
Spurs were said to have met with him but did not close a deal for the player rated at around £15 million, hoping to force Sevilla's hand into accepting a lower offer, due to the Spanish side's financial problems which proved less pressing than perceived at the time.
Since the transfer window closed, Negredo's form has been better than ever, scoring eight goals in nine games since the calendar turned to February.
He bagged another two last night, as Sevilla beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1. The brace is added to goals against Rayo Vallecano, Mallorca, Zaragoza and a hattrick against Celta Vigo.
It took his tally to the season to 17 goals for the club in La Liga, and 23 in all competitions for the club.
The tally is more than Defoe and Adebayor combined, with Defoe scoring 14 and Adebayor six for Spurs this season.
Negredo's recent form combined with Spurs' lack of proven options up top means they certainly have reason to rue missing out on him in the transfer window, with him showing he is worth the big money Sevilla demanded for him.
If Spurs miss out on the top four, they will point to the failure to sign him even more so as an error, but with Sevilla down in 10th in La Liga - they will fancy their chances of being able to tempt the striker away regardless in the summer if they make a big bid for him.
