Italian international want-away would be perfect midfield buy for Arsenal
Antonio Nocerino has admitted this week that he may have to look elsewhere for first-team football at the end of the season after falling down the pecking order at the San Siro.
In recent months the 15-caps Azzurri star has failed to earn a place in the first team of Massimiliano Allegri’s AC Milan side and it has left him feeling as if his career may best lie elsewhere.
In fact he has not started a game for the Rossoneri since the Milan Derby in February and has spent the bulk of that time sitting on the bench.
He recently spoke to Gazzeta Dello Sport about his future where he openly admitted his wish to seek pastures new in the summer; in order to keep himself in contention for the Italian World Cup squad:
"I am 28. Next season there is a World Cup. I would like to be there. I'd have problems in having another season like this one. We will see. For now, the most important thing is qualifying for the Champions League."
Nocerino is known as many things. Mocked for his bargain status of just £500k among AC Milan’s big money stars he is also well known for having the best beard in football but I digress.
What he is sometimes not remembered for is just how good a footballer he is; and he would fit perfectly into Arsene Wenger’s side.
He started his career as a deep lying holding midfielder and is still more than capable of playing such a role today. An excellent reader of the game he is also not one to shirk a tackle.
But in recent seasons he has also played higher up the pitch. His wonderful passing range and ability to see what others can’t make him a potent threat further up field and with the likes of Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky about as reliable as airport luggage control bringing in Nocerino on a bargain deal could be Arsenal’s best bit of business this summer.
Would you like to see Nocerino in an Arsenal shirt?
