David Kelly looks ahead to the Manchester derby and looks back at an eventful week in his own irreverent way.
What are the odds of Manchester City putting away another six past United at Old Trafford? I’m guessing they’re astronomical and I’m more inclined to throw what few pounds I have on a horse in the Grand National. I’ll tell you what horse I’ll be backing, whichever one my mother in law backs – it’s the one thing she always gets right, except for last year when she got confused by the signs in her premonition (she’s not a witch, honest) and chose Chicago Grey (grey being the subject of her premonition) instead of Neptune Collonges, which was a ‘grey’ horse.
What are the odds of City beating United? A good deal better than above I would imagine, in fact it’s actually a real probability now, United’s treble is now a single, although let’s not diminish the significance of League title number 20.
What are the odds of United imploding and City leapfrogging them to a second successive title? We’re back to Euromillions odds again and I find it absurd that this is in any way a probability – what concerns me more, if I’m being honest is what’s going on out in the Korean peninsula and wider Pacific region. I know I’ve mentioned this in a previous article but Little Kim is seriously off his rocker, probably surrounded by military warmongers who are far more vicious than any American right wing Hawk, it’s a real concern – up to the point where I’m wondering whether a nuclear scuffle breaks out before or after the Premier League season wraps up for another year.
The last time I mentioned Little Kim and North Korea I was sat in the office dreading the long, uphill bike ride home and here we are again. On the subject of cycling, I see Lance Armstrong is returning to competitive sport as a swimmer, let’s hope he doesn’t leave that sport in the same sorry state that he left professional cycling in. In saying that, he’s an energetic and entertaining character so I’ll be keeping my eye on him, as will all the anti-doping organisations.
United fans, what worries you more? A thrashing by City or Cold War Part II?
