Chelsea have recovered from 1-0 down and beat Sunderland 2-1 in Paolo Di Canio’s first match in charge of the Wearside club. They struggled at first and a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal gave Sunderland the lead at half-time.
However Chelsea has some luck in the second half when Matthew Kilgallon scored an own goal of his own and David Luiz’s strike came off of Branislav Ivanovic to save the three points. The result takes Chelsea to third in the league after Sours drew with Everton.
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Chelsea will be a threat next season - if Jose Mourinho takes over from Rafa Benitez. The Real Madrid boss is expected to leave the Bernabeu this season and Fergie fully expects the Portuguese to take over at the club once again.
Napoli are emerging as a surprise option for Frank Lampard next season. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and Chelsea have shown no interest in extending the fan favourites current deal.
Napoli are now competing with Juventus for his signature.
Chelsea have three Premier League teams reportedly interested in Thibaut Courtois for next season. Southampton, Wigan and Fulham are reportedly interested in bringing the Belgian number one in on loan next season.
He is currently at Atletico Madrid on loan and is reported to be keen on staying in Spain but Chelsea do not want to let him go permanently as he is considered the long term replacement for Petr Cech.
Chelsea under-18s have been beaten by their Manchester United counterparts at Carrington. In a weekend of own-goals for the club it was Nortei Nortey who put the ball in his own net after the 82nd minute.
