At the tail-end of last week Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle; and quite frankly it is not the first time this exact rumour has come up.
Accept there is one small twist on this occasion; now the rumour is Kevin De Bruyne will be thrown into any potential deal.
The Belgian has been out on loan all season at Werder Bremen and has attracted plenty of interest with his exemplary performances on the right-hand side of the Bremen midfield. Not only has he been in fine form in the Bundesliga but his performances for the Belgian national football team have also been highly impressive.
So while it may seem odd to suggest swapping De Bruyne before he even plays for Chelsea there is little doubt Andre Schurrle would be a useful acquisition for the side.
The German international can play anywhere across the front-line and at just 22-years-old would be an excellent player for the future. However they may not want another Nemanja Matic on their hands by letting De Bruyne go easily. They should also be cautious of Bundesliga talent after Marko Marin’s minimal impact since his arrival from Werder last summer.
But if you wanted a timely reminder of Schurrle’s talents fear not; he has not faled to deliver.
In a weekend when Bayern Munich tied up the Bundesliga title Leverkusen were trying their utmost to keep up with Borussia Dortmund in second place.
Unfortunately they lost ground on Schwarzgelben and now have Schalke 04 breathing down their necks after giving away the lead against Wolsfburg and drawing 1-1 after Simon Kjaer made up for an earlier mistake to level proceedings and take a point from the BayArena.
Schurrle scored the goal for Werkself in the battle of the ‘Factory Squads’ when he acrobatically finished off Lars Bender’s cross with an emphatic volley.
You can see the goal below…
Would you swap De Bruyne for Schurrle? Or prefer to have them both at The Bridge?
